Our story

Yesterday’s Curry celebrates the vibrant, tropical flavours of India’s smallest state, Goa. Founded by Emma Ryan, a trained chef with Goan heritage, the brand takes its name from the Goan phrase “kalchi kodi”, literally meaning “yesterday’s curry.” It refers to the beloved Goan fish curry which is always tastier the next day and enjoyed for breakfast in Goan households. Through Yesterday’s Curry, Emma introduces keen home cooks to the authentic masalas used in everyday Goan cookery, shining a light on this underrepresented region of India and introducing a hyper-regional range to the curry aisle.

About Emma

Emma Ryan is a chef, trained at Leiths School of Food & Wine, and the founder of Yesterday’s Curry. Half Goan and half Irish, she grew up in South London surrounded by the vibrant aromas and flavours of her family’s Goan cooking - pancakes laced with cardamom, tangy kokum fish curries, and spicy smoked sausages that shaped her culinary memory.

Emma has since turned her passion into a career, running supper clubs - including events at Fortnum & Mason, corporate cookery classes, and private dining experiences. She has extensive expertise in Goan cuisine and is developing a full pantry line of authentic Goan products to bring these flavours to home kitchens.
